New 2014 publications describe a Civil War Diary by
Amelia Word Foote, the letter writer's grandmother
in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. The publisher
states at http://stans-services.com/corinth/?page_id=58
"In 1965, the original handwritten diary pages were transcribed
...by James Foote Brinkley, Sr. . . . ." He is the son of Clara Woodworth Foote Brinkley.

In 1973, about the time Emerson's letter was received, A. Edward Foote
published an important document that was later to be distributed
by the US Government.
