Advanced Radio-Television-Film Production II 3 semester hours Official description: A continuation of Radio-Television-Film 430. Prerequisite: COM 430. Expanded description from professor: An advanced class in digital and analog video shooting, digitizing, and non-linear editing. Students are expected to produce videos/digital films/television shows demonstrating planning and production suitable for festival competition. And by appointment when necessary. It was recommended that students in Com 430 keep their textbooks for reference in Com 460. If students sold their books and find a need to replace them, the following text is recommended: Zettl, Herbert, Television Production Handbook, 8th edition Wadsworth, 2003. The student is expected to complete the following objectives:
Instructors Comment: The purpose of this course to apply information from previous production classes at a high level of creative quality and to learn newer, mini-DV shooting and non-linear editing techniques. Reviews of material covered in 430, discussions with professor and other students in class, monitored problem solving, production projects, video tapes, guest speakers and festival attendance.The following are methods by which the course objectives will be evaluated: Project one with other class members 30%; Project two 30%, individual project; Project three 30%, individual project using all other class members in talent and/or production assignments; George Lindsey/UNA Film Festival participation with Actor Ernst Borgnine and in-class reporting on event -- 10%. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=<60Attendance: Required by University policy. After four weeks of absences your grade will be become an "F" as announced in University literature. Grade may be lowered for excessive absences. Because of the importance of being on-time and meeting deadlines, tardiness will be noted on the roll and may affect the grade if it becomes a problem. January 19 --- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day February 20 to 22 --- University closed for Winter break March 5 --- Middle of term March 5 --- Last day to apply for 2004 Fall graduation March 22 to 28 --- Spring Holidays April 9 --- University closed April 15 to 17 --- Lindsey/UNA Film Festival May 6 --- Study Day May 7 to 13 --- Semester Exams Students will consult the recommended reference textbook, Canon DV camera, Adobe Premier manual, Blossom system manual, and handouts posted by editing suites as needed . Professor and staff are available to answer questions when necessary. Students will read the Studio Policy and Procedures Statement which is posted in television control room. The guidelines will be applied without exception. Student failure to abide by guidelines will result in appropriate, described response by the professor. Professor will meet with students individually to approve projects before planning and production begin. |
